The Tuesday Blog

Because Monday is kind of boring

Blog Post #1

Hi this in my first blog post. I don't really know what I'm going to be posting here.

In other news my car broke down again. :(

Blog Post #2

Hi, sorry for no new baking recipe this week but this is a bit important to me.

Yesterday, Monday, the day before this one, my wife and I got some tests done as we prep for a child and we have discovered my wife is a carrier for color blindness :O.

So, using my epic wiki-wikipedia skills I did some R E A S E R C H and found the page vandalised. 10/10 job mods to busy updating dead actors pages.

So after I got done writing an Email to the staff I did some actual research which from now on will include *citations* (it's awful I know)

Talk soon but I'll be sprinkling in my research in with other things. See you next week! (also the car is still broken.)

Blog Post #3

Welcome back to the interblog, I've got a couple updates! First, the car works again and second we have more info on the color blindness situation.
So first we've learned there is a 1/4 chance for our child to be born with color blindness and they could only have. So let me whack out a Punnett Square real quick annnnnd boom.

So as you can see if we have a son there's a 50/50 chance they have color blindness and because I am very bored I have made a potential pedigree table for our family if that does happen.

So color blindness is a recessive sex-linked trait meaning it gets shown only if there's no dominant allele to cover it and it's passed by the X chromosome (I hope you all remember your 8th grade science classes).
Well more updates coming next week!

Blog Post #4

Ahoy there! Sorry for the lack of recipes as of late but, my wife and I have been very stressed as of late from preparing for our child and the whole color blindness thing(and what better way to deal with stress than with moving at 60 jokes a second ;)). So I've been continuing to do research into that and I've got the MLA format citation(s) to prove it! So first, color blindness Affects 1/12 Men and 1/200 women with 300 Mil affected world wide (wow thats a lot of people) with men being more likely to get it.

Now while there's no know cure to color blindness as of now there's a lot of research being done into it such as this study being done into using "gene therapy" to make the eyes build the cones (light sensey thingys) the right way so you can see color or let like fully blind people see (pretty neat).

As always this is Mr. Illinois web man signing off.

Blog Post #5

Hey all, I'm back with another epic status update.
So as a precautionary measure I've spent the last week labeling every thing in the house I could think of with shapes and words instead of colors and such to help with the whole not being able to tell colors apart thing. Speaking of which, did you know that there are 3 kinds of color blindness? There's Red-Green, Blue-Yellow, and full color blind which surprised me cause I only ever hear about Red-Green.

(Source:National Eye Institute. “Types of Color Vision Deficiency | National Eye Institute.” Www.nei.nih.gov, 7 Aug. 2023, www.nei.nih.gov/learn-about-eye-health/eye-conditions-and-diseases/color-blindness/types-color-vision-deficiency.(wow thats loooooong))

Also something neat I learned about recently there are these glasses that let color blind people differentiate colors better as seen below.

I'm not all too sure if I would be willing to trust the photos that much but I'll keep these in mind for later.
I also found on the website that they have things to help raise awareness for color blindness which is very le cool B).

(source:“Color Accessibility Program.” Enchroma.com, enchroma.com/pages/color-accessibility.(Long link numero tres))

Speaking of which, I found this cool place called colourblindawareness.org that offers online support groups through their Twitter (ew™) and Facebook. We also have a local Eye doctor which I already go to "Chittick Eye Care" ((217)-398-2020) which would be good for check ups. I've also asked my friend with color blindness about a few things and he gave me some info. 1. There's not any additional medical costs compared to normal poor vision things and 2. that there would be no additional school things they would need to attend (but they may need things labeled with not colors)

Well that's all for this week, I'll be doing more research until then.

Blog Post #6

No update on color blindness research, but the shocking continuation of the car updates. It's got a coolant leak now :(.

Just joking i've still got some color blindness update stuff (the car is actualy leaking coolant though). So this is more than likely going to be the last color blindness related thing because I am now satisfied with the research I have done.
So what captivating thing have I found to round this off? Why none other than a sheet to give to teachers to inform them on color blind things(it's utterly riveting I know).

(source:“Color Blindness Factsheet (for Schools) (for Parents) - KidsHealth.” Kidshealth.org, 2014, kidshealth.org/en/parents/color-blind-factsheet.html.(If I had a dollar for every character in the link I would be able to fix the car.))

Well this is the last update on color blindness research. Until next week, I'm signing off.

Blog Post #7

Hey all, no color blind updates (for real this time) but car update! It's now not only leaking coolant(if it had any) but now it's gas cap is stuck and won't open.
Well I've got some stuff happening this month so I'll be gone for a while. Bye for now :).
